There’s an important lesson in the life of Nigeria’s new Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas. He hails originally from Plateau State and was born in Jos. When he sought admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) years ago, the then government of Plateau reportedly denied him an indigene certificate , allegedly bcus he was a Hausa and Muslim. Undeterred, he turned to Kano State, his father’s origin, where he was issued the certificate. With it, he gained admission into the NDA and began his journey in the Nigerian Navy. Today, the same man who was once rejected in his birthplace has risen to become the Chief of Naval Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Indeed, no one can alter what Allah has destined. When God decides to elevate someone, no barrier, ethnic, political, or social can stand in the way. Now, one might ask: Should the people of Plateau or Kano celebrate him more? Perhaps the real answer is that his success belongs to Nigeria, and his story is a reminder that destiny always finds its way. May Allah guide him and grant him success in his new role. 🇳🇬⚓
