A Paris court has sentenced Roger Lumbala, a former rebel leader from DR Congo, to 30 years in prison for complicity in crimes against humanity committed during the 2002–2003 conflict in eastern Congo. Lumbala faced charges of murder, torture, and sexual violence, more than two decades after the atrocities. Prosecutors had sought life imprisonment and a permanent ban from France. Over 60 victims and witnesses testified during the trial. The court also ordered Lumbala to be permanently barred from French territory, closing a case that began with his arrest in Paris in 2021.#DWAfrica
