The debate about having sex before a sports competition has always been a subject of study. Traditionally, many coaches and teams have imposed sexual abstinence during important training camps, based on the belief that sex physically weakens you. However, science does not support that belief. Various studies indicate that having sex before competing does not negatively affect strength, endurance, or physical performance. Some experts even point out that sex can help reduce stress, improve mood, and promote better rest, which could be beneficial for the athlete. The conclusion is that there is no solid scientific evidence that justifies prohibiting sex before a competition. Even so, many coaches continue to apply these rules out of tradition.
