The solemn parade was organised in honour of fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in the defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the preservation of the nation’s peace and unity. The event was attended by senior military officers, personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force, representatives of other security agencies, government officials, traditional rulers, veterans, families of fallen heroes, and members of the general public. The Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Otu, Governor of Cross River State, was ably represented by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Right Honourable Peter Odey. The parade featured the inspection of the parade by the Special Guest of Honour, the laying of wreaths in honour of Nigeria’s fallen heroes, the sounding of the reveille, and the ceremonial release of pigeons, symbolising peace, freedom, and the collective aspiration for enduring national unity. Speaking briefly after the ceremony, the Deputy Governor described the occasion as a moment of reflection and gratitude to the gallant men and women who paid the ultimate price for the unity and peace of Nigeria. He noted that the peace enjoyed in Cross River State reflects the dedication and professionalism of the Armed Forces and other security agencies, while reaffirming the state government’s continued support for the Nigerian military. The Headquarters 13 Brigade Nigerian Army used the occasion to reassure the government and people of Cross River State of its unwavering resolve to sustain peace, security, and robust civil–military cooperation within its area of responsibility. The event concluded peacefully with exchange of pleasantries and group photographs, marking a dignified end to the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day activities in Calabar.
