Nigeria Takes the Global Stage: FG Unveils Bold Plan to Transform Caregiving into a Pillar of National Security Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening families and protecting children at the Global Caregiver Forum held on 15–16 January 2026, jointly organized by the Government of Spain, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO), with support from the Global Initiative to Support Parents (GISP). Representing Nigeria, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development presented the country’s position on caregiving and parenting as the foundation of child development, emphasizing the science and policy implications of early childhood care. She stated that under the Renewed Hope (RH) Agenda, the Federal Government is transforming Nigeria’s care economy into a funded and strategic pillar of development and national security. According to her, the administration is professionalizing caregiving, leveraging data to give the sector visibility, and strengthening social and legal protections to ensure caregiving is no longer a silent struggle. The Minister affirmed that these reforms will empower parents and families, protect children, and build homes as sanctuaries of peace, stressing that an empowered family remains the strongest foundation for a secure and prosperous Nigeria. @hm_womenaffairs
