PRESS RELEASE FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE INAUGURATES PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (PMS) COMMITTEE TO DRIVE EFFICIENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND SERVICE DELIVERY The Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, MBA, MDRM, FCNA, ACTI, has inaugurated the Service’s Performance Management System (PMS) Committee as part of ongoing reforms to strengthen institutional performance, enhance operational accountability, and ensure measurable service outcomes. The PMS initiative derives from the strategic directive of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aimed at improving performance tracking, monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and ensuring alignment between Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the Interior Ministry and the national governance priorities. Last year, the Controller General participated in the signing of the Performance Contract during the Mid-Tenure 2025 Sectoral Ministerial Performance Review Retreat held in Suleja, where heads of Interior MDAs committed to measurable performance outcomes. Subsequently, Directors and Heads of Departments within the Service also signed institutional performance bonds during the PMS training hosted by the Nigerian Correctional Service in furtherance of the reform agenda. Inaugurating the Committee at the FFS Headquarters, the Controller General explained that the PMS framework offers a structured platform for monitoring operational outputs, assessing productivity, and improving efficiency, particularly in areas such as fire prevention, emergency response, capacity development, asset deployment, and public safety education. CG Adeyemi stressed that the creation of the PMS Committee underscores the Service’s commitment to the mandate of the Ministry of Interior and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on public sector reforms, results-based governance, and enhanced service delivery. He urged members of the Committee to demonstrate diligence, transparency, and an outcomes-driven orientation in the discharge of their responsibilities, adding that effective performance tracking is essential for the Service to meet its institutional KPIs and deliver tangible value to Nigerians. “The expectations before us are clear. We must deepen the culture of accountability, measure what we do, and deliver on agreed KPIs in the interest of national safety and public confidence,” the CGF stated. The Committee is chaired by Deputy Controller General Achi Ijeoma Okidi, head, Planning, Research and Statistics Department. Its terms of reference include coordinating the implementation of the PMS framework, developing internal KPIs for Directorates, strengthening cross-departmental reporting mechanisms, and liaising with the Ministry of Interior on performance reporting. Performance management has become central to public sector reforms globally, and its integration within the Federal Fire Service reflects the evolution of emergency and safety institutions towards modern, data-driven, and citizen-responsive models. For a Service whose functions directly impact life, property, and national resilience, performance measurement enables better planning, faster response, improved inter-agency collaboration, and enhanced public trust.
