DMX rapped about School Street in Yonkers like it was sacred ground.

It was where he grew up at the Calcagno Homes housing complex. He mentioned it in "School Street" on The Great Depression and in "Look Thru My Eyes" on his legendary 1998 debut. The street wasn't just an addres, it was the foundation of everything he became. On May 27, 2026, the Yonkers City Council voted unanimously to rename the intersection of School Street and Brooke Street "Earl DMX Simmons Way." Not one objection. He sold 74 million albums. He became the only artist in history to have five consecutive debut albums reach number 1 on the Billboard 200. He was buried at Oakland Cemetery in Yonkers, the city he never left behind even when the whole world knew his name. Now the street that raised him carries his name forever. "Earl Simmons wrestled with God in the public square, turning his pain into a ministry of raw truth." He put Yonkers on the map. Yonkers put him on the map right back.
