Uba Sani Extends Free CNG Bus Scheme Indefinitely, Deepens Commitment to Citizens’ Welfare The Kaduna State Government has announced the indefinite continuation of its Free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mass Transit Scheme, following what it described as the “overwhelming positive impact” of the initiative on residents across the state. In a statement issued on Friday, the Honourable Commissioner of Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, said Governor Uba Sani approved the extension after reviewing the latest assessment report on the scheme’s performance between July and November 2025. According to the statement, the 100 CNG-powered buses and 200 designated bus stops operating across the state have transported more than 1.4 million passengers within five months, saving Kaduna households an estimated ₦1.39 billion in transport costs. “These are not just numbers,” the Commissioner said. “They represent school fees paid, food on the table, small businesses staying afloat, and thousands of our citizens moving daily without the burden of transport costs.” He added that the scheme currently serves over 18,000 residents every day, reaffirming its role as one of the state’s most impactful social intervention programmes. Maiyaki noted that Governor Uba Sani, deeply moved by testimonies from commuters during recent field assessments, directed that the free rides continue without a fixed end date. “The relief on the faces of our people and the gratitude in their voices remind us that leadership must always reduce the burdens of ordinary citizens,” Governor Sani said. “For this reason, I have approved the indefinite continuation of the Free CNG Mass Transit Scheme.” The Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding safe, affordable, and eco-friendly transportation for all residents as part of its broader human capital development agenda.
