We’ll not sack workers, or reduce salary — Abia govt

UMUAHIA—ABIA State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said that he will not reduce the N18,000 minimum wage for civil servants in the state. Governor Ikpeazu also denied rumour of plans to reduce the state’s workforce, saying that despite the adverse economic situation, Abia has not entered the “relegation zone.” Ikpeazu According to the governor, though the federal allocation to the state in the last six months has been between N2.2 and N2.4 billion, which he said was “hardly sufficient for the overhead,” he has no intention to slash salary or sack workers. Ikpeazu tasked the state’s workforce to work hard and join hands with the government in the effort to raise the internally generated revenue [IGR], which he has set a target of N1.5 billion monthly. Akwa Ibom PDP Suffers Setback As 5,000 Members Defect To APC

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State suffered a set back Tuesday with the defection of more than 5000 of it’s members in Obot Akara Local Government Area to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Eket Stakeholders Urge Gov Emmanuel To Focus On Infrastructural Devt

Stakeholders from Eket Senatorial district in Akwa Ibom State have urged Governor Udom Emmanuel to remain focused on his well-thought out plans of infrastructural development and industrialisation of the state. Lagos Assembly To Pass 2016 Budget Tomorrow

The Lagos State House of Assembly is set to pass the 2016 Appropriation Bill into law tomorrow. Committing the budget to the House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning during the presentation of the budget proposal to the House by Governor Akinwumi Ambode penultimate Thursday, speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, promised that the Budget would be passed into law on Thursday, 31st December, 2015. He said the budget, estimated at N662.588 billion, was the best so far in the state, adding that it would meet the expectations of the people.

Controversy Trails Killing Of Twins, Friend By Policeman

Controversy is trailing the reason a police sergeant killed a set of twin brothers, their friend and himself in front of a hotel at Ikosi in Ketu area of Lagos State on Boxing Day. While some people said Sgt. Stephen James was ordering the trio of Taiwo and Kehinde Oyesunle and their friend, Jeje, to buy him a bottle of beer in Paulson Hotel, at Anibaba Street, others alleged that they were arguing over whose club would win a football match played by foreign clubs. Lagos CJ Frees 10 Prison Inmates

In exercise of her prerogative of mercy, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Oluwafunmilayo Atilade, on Wednesday released 10 inmates from Ikoyi Prisons . She said the gesture was aimed at decongesting the prisons and ensuring that deserving inmates breathed a fresh air of freedom. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Atilade had on June 18 released 16 inmates from the prisons. Atilade admonished the freed inmates to be of good behaviour and make positive impacts on the society. The Federal Government had charged Kanu, alongside two others, before a Federal High Court in Abuja on six counts of treason and other ancillary offences. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in a statement he made to the Department of State Service, DSS, on October 23 said he intended to write a private letter to Buhari to express his apology for his comments.
