“Harrysong And I Have Issues To Settle” – Kcee Says

Award-winning singer, Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, popularly known in showbiz as Kcee, has admitted that the quarrel between himself and former collaborator and label-mate Harrysong was far from settled prior to the just concluded Headies award 2016.

Uti Nwachukwu invited Kcee to join Harrysong on stage to receive the award in the Best Pop Single category for the hit single ‘Reggae Blues,’ which featured Kcee, Iyanya, and Orezi.

Harrysong, instead of making the acceptance speech after receiving the plaque from Uti Nwachukwu, passed the microphone to Kcee to speak.

Although Kcee initially didn’t want to join Harrysong on stage prior to Uti’s invitation, here’s what he said: “Okay, ladies and gentlemen, I’m so excited tonight. This song was just recorded in a few minutes. And when we released this song everybody bounced on it, in and outside the country.

I want to say, thank you to Olamide, Orezi, Iyanya, and ‘Ya Daddy’ (Harrysong). “You know two of us have issues to settle but we are in public. We’ll settle it and come back to you.” Later in the night, when both of them were called to present the award of Best R & B single of the year to Darey for his song ‘Pray for Me,’ Harrysong appeared nervous standing alongside Kcee on stage, and many fans who voiced their opinions on Facebook described the ‘Better Pikin’ crooner as fidgety during the presentation.

Wizkid Disobeys His Doctors, Jumps On Stage Again | See Details

Wizkid has disobeyed medical advice by giving a performance in Lagos. The singer who was advised by his doctors’ to abstain from live performances in December 2016 and January 2017, ignored the advice as he took to the stage at the Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged Concert.

Pepsi Rhythm Unplugged, which is in its 12th year, is West Africa’s most popular concert. The event which held on Friday, December 23 had performances from P-Square, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Falz, Omawumi and many others. It was hosted by Bovi and produced by Cobhams . Nigeria’s finest, Wizkid, has been all over the international music scene this year.

A song with Drake, MTV awards wins, various collaborations and a Grammy nomination is the summary of his year, before medical advice from his doctors made him cancel all of his holiday concerts. But he defied his doctors’ orders to abstain from performing, as he took to the stage, payed respect to Cecil Hammond, the organiser of the concert, before diving into a set that contained a selected number of his hit songs. He was backed by collaborator DJ Xclusive , who cued in ‘Jeje’, ‘The Matter’, ‘Jaiye Jaiye’, ‘Caro’, ‘In my bed’, and many more.

“Doctors told me not to perform,” Starboy said during his set, “but before I blew, this concert held, and has supported me. I have to do this for them.” Wizkid recently released a new single “Daddy Yo’, which features Ghanaian songstress, Efya, with a video released via VEVO.

Wizkid’s health concerns has had him cancel a concert in Uganda, which prompted the promoters to seek redress in court, with a judge issuing an arrest warrant for the singer. In documents that surfaced online the charges levelled against Wizkid include obtaining money by false pretence, cheating and conspiracy to defraud. Ugandan Entertainment Company Face TV through Muwema co advocates and solicitors, is reportedly accusing Wizkid of receiving $60,000, estimated at N27million as performance fee for the concerts he just cancelled due to health issues.

Face TV claims that Wizkid’s team agreed to the deal, only to incur extra expenses for booking flights and other logistics to the tune of $300,000. They are accused of selling tickets to 25,000 people for the concert which was cancelled.

Wizkid was billed to perform at Lugogo Cricket Oval on December 3 but failed to show up for the event due to health conditions.

I Don’t Have Top 5 Rappers, I Just Enjoy Rap – Vector

Rapper, Vector, recently sat down for an interview with Thecable Lifestyle, where he talked about his music, the Nigerian music industry and of course, is soon to be released album, Lafiaji.

Read excerpts from the interview:

What’s your creative process like?

I have voices in my head and I’m being honest. I am very aware of my environment and that is key to my music making process. That’s why it’s easy for me to freestyle because I make sense out if everything around me. That’s why it’s easy for me to look around a room and freestyle.

Indigenous, English or Pidgin rap. Which are you most comfortable doing?

I don’t pick, I go with the spirit of making music. One of the biggest songs on the album is Adura and it’s mostly in Yoruba. I am not doing music in whatever lingo because it’s commercial, I do it for compatibility.

What makes Lafiaji different?

Lafiaji is a place on Lagos Island where I grew up and I felt that people needed to experience that, to know what it means to be a barracks Lagos Island boy. Maybe you will understand me better when I am out there and I don’t want to speak to people or when I am not participating in some things. It’s not pride, it’s just that where I am from, if it doesn’t make sense or help you become better, there’s no point indulging in it.

It had to be Lafiaji because that is where I know the most on Lagos Island. I have seen fights and peace on the turf. The area has meant a lot to me philosophical. I just thought it’s time to give back to them because every of my foundational experiences took place in Lafiaji. It’s not a cliche Vector album, it’s an appreciation of where I am from that has not denied me.

Is the hype you built for Lafiaji not too high?

I’m 6 ft 4 inches, I am not scared of heights. I have never been average so why start now? I have always been raising the car. If you see it as too high then I deserve to be there.

Name 5 top rappers in Nigeria

I don’t have 5 top rappers in Nigeria, I have rappers that I respect for doing their thing. It’s not from an angle of pride that I don’t have five top rappers, I just enjoy rap.

What would you attribute the growth of the industry to?

It’s natural, a great football team without a coach could win a match because the footballers can play. The fact that we debate the existence of the industry show that there is one. Is it up to global standards, maybe you could argue that.

We have bodies that function as part of an industry that we claim doesn’t exist. Things can get better but again, I’m tired of talking down Nigeria. We are too quick to damage the image of our country forgetting that we are the country which means that we are damaging ourselves.

There is an industry, yes. Is it at par with the world? Maybe not, but then who is counting. In the industry, we are dealing with too many things like corporations that get established and they are dubious people.

What can artistes do to make more money?

I think we have to reset the Nigerian brain and give them a philosophy to live by because you do business with some people and find out that they have made away with your money and they start giving excuses. We can only hope, pray and work for the better.

Tekno Miles, Mr. Eazi, 2Baba, Simi | Here Are The Winners And Losers From #TheHeadies2016

The 11th Headies held last night and we won’t come here to remind you about the glitz and glamour because there was hardly any, to be frank.

It was an event that was attended with a variety of expectations depending on audience’s unique preferences. Some came for a street show that they hoped would feature Olamide, a few others came for the possibilities of another major showdown between two artistes at variance and many attended to actually watch their favourite musicians get rewarded.

Here are all the winners and losers from this year’s Headies Awards:

WINNERS

Mr Eazi: The Next Rated award category is all too important. Aside the car gift attached to it, it has its way of reiterating the winner’s strengths to the Nigerian music audience. Past winners of The Headies Next Rated awards have gone on to make major successes of their careers. Wizkid, Davido, Wande Coal, Omawumi, etc.

This year though, the contenders were YCee, Aramide, Humblesmiths and Mr Eazi (oh and Tekno, but he wasn’t interested so he got kicked out). Mr Eazi emerged winner and it was a popular choice as the audience expressed their agreement with loud screams.

Wizkid: He crept in late into the show, he got everybody’s attention, he smiled throughout the night, he watched in satisfaction and maybe even fulfilment as his protege and label act, Mr Eazi received his Next Rated award, then he was himself announced as winner of another important award, Artiste of the Year.

Wizkid won this award without too much effort. One Dance was enough. But more importantly, we think this win was more about his international influence than a singular track. In case you didn’t know, Wizkid is NOW an icon.

2Baba: 2Baba came on stage twice. First to present his tribute song to the OJB Jezreel, Nomoreloss and late Koga studios boss, Chris Jeyibo who all passed on in 2016. From the comments around us, his hyped up fans wanted him all over the place singing their favourite tracks but 2baba stuck to his purpose, he performed a touching tribute and it held us in awe.

Kiss Daniel: The biggest winner of the night for the Hip Hop Revelation of the Year, Album of the Year and Best R&B/Pop Album. Kiss Daniel is quietly taking over and enjoys massive love from fans. 2017 is set to be a bigger year for this star.

Why else does he win? He was on standby to pick up his own awards.

The live band: The instrumentalists and back-up singers were so good, it was hard for some of the performing artistes to keep up. Especially who have gotten used to lip-syncing to their songs in the name of performing. Great job guys.

The hosts: Adesua Etomi and Falzthebahdguy surpassed expectations. It was clear they had ample time to rehearse, they were out to have fun, they are both extraordinarily talented and were in sync.

The organisers made a great choice on this one and we will not forget Falz’s impersonation of Bobrisky. The work was done!

The Headies organisers: Apart from a few errors here and there and microphones that failed all through the night, the 2016 Headies was a good show. The stage was well lit, performances were on point, entry at the gate was drama free, the pre-event reception was good and there were more than enough volunteers on standby to attend to guests. They had branded Headies shirts on so it wasn’t difficult to figure out who to direct questions to.

LOSERS

Tekno: For disregarding the biggest and most respected award show in Nigeria’s music industry, Tekno Miles shot himself in the foot. There’s no denying that he has more than five successful tracks to his credit but those are not enough to cover for the influence artistes gain with and through the Headies.

If it wasn’t important, Wizkid would have called their bluff and stayed at home too. And to think that Tekno’s record label boss, Ubi Franklin was at the show from start to finish and even presented an award.

The Headies organisers: We totally understand that event sponsors are all too important but the number of times the organisers ran adverts got the impatient crowd super pissed. The ads were a waste of time and a total turn off.

Also, we didn’t get the memo that it was the throwback edition of the Headies so most members of the audience weren’t quite prepared for the oldies (Remedies, Ras Kimono, Jazzman Olofin etc) who showed up on stage.

Nigerian artistes: All of these guys need to do better by way of ditching their pride. We will never understand why Olamide, Patoranking and Illbliss snubbed the awards.

Simi: She was spotted on the red carpet but failed to appear on stage to pick up her award for Best Outstanding vocal performance (female). When she was finally able to grace us with her presence, she had a girl on her tail holding the train of her dress in place even on stage. Hello? No! If you’re not able to manage and control your dress all by yourself, how about you stay at home and learn or better still, wear something else.

FINALLY!! Wizkid Denies Snubbing Eva Alordiah’s Fiance At The Headies Award 2016

The crowd was in rocking mode when Wizkid walked in at last night’s Headies award, and it was evident with everyone jumping to their feet and chorous of his name was sang. He was ill. Nobody expected him to show up.

Entering into the venue, Wizkid snubbed his own excited fans that were screaming his name and not like they were bothered.

However, one fan had the worst kind of snubbing from Baba Nla as he was left with a stigma that would rock him for the rest of his life.

Wizkid cockily avoided the man and went ahead to hug the pretty woman he came to the venue with.

The snubbed man in question is TV presenter, actor and model, Caesar, who also happens to be music star, Eva Alordiah‘s fiance.

You can watch the video below.

However, Wizkid has denied allegations of being a snub

When one fan on twitter posted a video of the incident on the social network, Wizkid quoted the tweet and replied:

“Honestly didn’t see my man! Love always!”

Do you believe Wizkid unintentionally snubbed Eva’s fiance Caesar? Drop your comments below!

BREAKING NEWS!! Tekno Disqualified From The Headies ‘Next Rated’ Award Category (See What He Did)

The singer who was nominated for the ‘Next Rated’ has been kicked off the list by the Headies.

The category will now be tightly contested byYcee, Aramide, Humblesmith and Mr Eazi, as the ‘Pana’ hit star misses out on the chance.

According to top sources, Tekno lost out on his spot due to his refusal to honour the category and support the campaign.

Nominees are expected to attend promo activities for the event, and also take part in promotion for the category sponsor, Hyundai. Tekno failed to submit himself for engagements, promo campaign photos and more.

Tekno had earlier rubbished the Headies Awards when he was announced in the category. He took to Instagram to say “‘Next rated after how many years! Let’s be honest pls”.

His refusal to rate the award show and acknowledge the category is responsible for his lackadaisical attitude towards the show.

This isn’t the first time an artiste was disqualified from the Headies ‘Next Rated’ category. In 2013, Burna Boy came close to disqualification for not submitting himself to promo photos.

50 Cents Hints On Quiting Music After “Street King Immortal” Album

50 Cent has hinted at hanging up the mic soon during an interview with a Fitness Magazine.

The 41-year-old made this known when asked about his long-awaited album Street King Immortal in the interview.

The G-Unit mogul revealed then that his days as an MC may be numbered, saying, ‘I want to finish with that project.’

He further told Muscle & Fitness, ‘I don’t want to write another record after that. You know how some artists got to have confirmation that they’re right. I have that confirmation in fucking 35, 40 million [albums] that I already sold.’

Fifty Cent has been promising SKI since at least 2011, with the project yet to see the light of day.

In the time since he first announced the project, he released his mixtapes The Big 10, The Lost Tape, and The Kanan Tape, as well as Animal Ambition, which was his first independently released album following a beneficial run with Interscope.

And recently, 50 also claimed he would be leaving TV series Power after the hit Starz show was snubbed by the Golden Globes.

To Hell With Award Shows That Make You History! – Singer Toby Grey Angrily Burst Out

Fast rising singer Toby Grey has penned down an outburst “To Whom It May Concern” on her social media page.

A glance at the epistle, shows that the “Do” crooner considers some so called “credible” and “prestigious” award shows a sham.

Toby Grey opined that these so called “credible” and “prestigious” awards are more often than not rigged in favour of less deserving artistes. She also highlighted her struggle as an Indie artiste.

Read her unedited note on IG below.

What amazes me the most is the hypocrisy of people when it comes to awards. Everybody wants an award for doing nothing..dunno about you but I’d rather not get any than be made history on so called “credible” or “prestigious” awards. As an indie artist people don’t know the work you put in all in the name of blowing! You have to pay for everything cos of course music is an expensive business.

But how much is your 10k or 20k worth when someone will pay a radio station for the whole year? Who will play your music. God’s grace and loyal fans is all you have to live on. To hell with award shows that make you history!

Where were dey when you needed support? Best thing is to keep grinding until people see behind the flimsy facade of those that refuse to help. A tree cannot form a forest whether you like it or not. To those that we have to beg before they show support, I pray you live forever.

Eventually what will be will be. Ish #ENBG

Why Emmanuella May Never Make Her Hair – Mark Angel Reveals

The Mark Angel Comedy group has grown with Little Emmanuella doing exploits with her Uncle Mark.

In a recent interview with NAIJ, Mark Angel reveals her parents’ reaction to her new found fame, how she gets paid and how comedy and travelling is affecting her schooling. Read excerpts below:

On her Parents’ reactions to her acting, he said:

They were happy. We didn’t even know that this was going to go big like this when we started. We liked what we were doing and we were doing it for the fun of it. After shooting the comic skits all we do then was to share it with our friends on Whatsapp and they will tell that was funny and that will be the end of it. But later I started to build social media handles to see how more people can view what we are doing. We found out that when people see Emmanuella their moods just change. We want her to affect more people.

On her Parents’ reaction now that she’s a superstar

Just the same way I feel. They are like wow this has gone big. It came as a surprise that we are going this big, when we noticed we told ourselves we have to be serious about it so that we will not disappoint our viewers and followers. That is how we turned our hubby into something serious.

On how Emmanuella gets paid

It’s no longer family-family thing but now business. Emmanuella’s family and I realized that she is a minor now though a celebrity but she is going to grow up. So we need to save for her future. Together with her parents we have put things in place for her.

On how Comedy and travelling is affecting Emmanuella’s education

It’s affecting her. Before now she was attending a public school and when the stardom started setting in we have to move her to a private school. Even at the school because she is Emmanuella they gave her preferences such that if she said she is not ready to learn they will take it from her. When I learnt about this development I went mad.

One day, I took it out on the principal for allowing her to have her ways. Despite the warning they still kept doing that so I changed her school. Despite telling them why I moved her to the school some teachers still give her special attention, it’s a battle. And when we travel outside the country we always look for a teacher even before our landing in that country. And since their curriculum is quite different from our own we go extra length to break it down to her.

We always tell her foreign teachers to try to synchronise Nigerian school curriculum with theirs so we can get a balance. And the good thing is that she has learnt some things her classmate has not learnt before.

Emmanuella’s real age

She is six.

People says she is older than six

Looking at her now does she look older than six? Emmanuella looks big on screen like 12 years but when you see her live you know.

What class is Emmanuella

I am in primary two.

Emmanuella’s hairstyle

She will make her hair sometime when she is older and can decide for herself.

No earrings

Yes.

No earring, low haircut, why

Maybe religion by not only that, it’s in the family too. In our family we all cut our hair, both male and female and Emmanuella in particular doesn’t like it. If you try making her hair she can’t carry it for long as she will tell you it hurts her. There was a time we wanted to travel and I told her fans want her to make her hair, she was like, if I make my hair now my fans will not recognize me again. You know her hair also has something to do with her brand.
