Read Why Burna Boy Said Bloggers Will Go To Hell (Read Here)

Days ago, Dancehall artiste Burna Boy threw insults at web-based journalists aka bloggers. The 25-year-old suggested that bloggers will go to hellfire when they die (lol).

Inquiries by Somtoo Okoye blog has revealed why the “Run My Race” crooner uttered such curses.

According to a popular blogger, Mr. Ora of www.volume.ng, Burna Boy got angry after his tracks were shared online before an official release.

Ora said:

“because of his new track ooh.. He wanted to sell it only on iTunes. He was just sharing the snippet and the iTunes link, Nigerian bloggers sharply bought it and uploaded it for free! That’s his Madness today.

He forgot those who made him popular. He forgot he once begged bloggers to upload his songs. Nigerian musicians and bloggers shaa.”

Nigerian Singer Wizkid ’Come Closer’ Reaches New Levels

Despite the ruckus that greeted ‘Come Closer’, Wizkid’s new musical video over the absence of Drake, the video continues to be a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s Starboy.

As at today, May 29, 2017, ‘Come Closer’ has garnered more views than his old hits, including ‘Holla at Your Boy’, ‘In My Bed’ and ‘Jaiye Jaiye’ with over 8.6million views making the video Wizkid’s fifth most viewed music video.

‘Come Closer’ first broke an African record when it got it’s first million views just 24 hours after its release on April 6, and it’s remained the ‘fastest growing’ video by Wizzy.

Perhaps, Nigerians’ disappointment with Drake’s absence is not misplaced, as the video would have had some additional significant millions.

But notwithstanding, ‘Come Closer’ has performed creditably thus far and it shouldn’t be long before it becomes Wizkid’s highest viewed video.

[A Must Read] Why No One Should Pay 2.5million Naira To See Asa

For only the second time in her career, singer Asa is hosting a concert in Lagos 😄

To rub it in that it’s not her idea to have a concert, she kuku titled it ‘Asa Encore‘ so that everybody will know that it’s you people that begged her to bless us with her gift.

Tickets to the Asa show start at 10k and table goes for 2.5million. In this Buharinomics recession? How dare she?! Who is she to charge that much for just a couple of hours, is she Beyonce?

Ten years ago when she started wailing about broken hearts (Bibanke) and sharing the story of her nephew’s bastard child (Awe), all we’ve done is support her. Not like we had a choice though, she’s nothing like we’re used to.

Her cooling tones and soothing chords seeped deep into our subconscious, healing our wounds and providing a succour for all of us that have been bruised by all the akpako Nigerian artistes have been ‘nacking us since.

After that eponymous album in 2007 we kept begging ‘Asa sing another one for us na.’ She refused. She was touring all over Europe, cavorting with people with more sophisticated palates than we.

She waited three full years before she released Beautiful Imperfection. Sigh. And then waited a full world cup cycle till she released Bed Of Stone in 2014. Still no Lagos headline concert. She just stayed touring and getting a serious glow up.

Finally in 2016, she deemed it fit to stop by these parts to throw a show like we had never seen before. Angelic, divine and breathtaking- before our very eyes at Eko Hotel last year, Asa ascended to god status; joining Sade people who could do no wrong. E yo, she told us. And we rejoiced.

Little wonder that our appetite for her has refused to satiate in ten years that she has been a part of our lives.

Tomorrow she will bless us again with her cherubic presence and ballads. Tomorrow she will stand on a stage and invoke the spirits of the Yoruba gods that touched her tongue with the gift of words; couple them with the luxurious waters of the Seine from which she drank in Paris and once again, kill us with enjoyment.

But the 2.5million naira per table she’s charging for her show, isn’t it excessive? Not nearly.

See ehn, Asa doesn’t belong to us anymore. We gave her up long ago to the world to enjoy. We sent her out to the world to show them that Nigeria is capable of producing a truly world class musician.

To witness the greatness that is Asa, one billion naira won’t be enough. The richness of her melody is unquantifiable. Like the Mastercard advert, seeing Asa and hearing her voice in person is priceless. Add to the fact that she will be performing with a 30 piece orchestra, then you know that it’s no run-of-the-mill show.

But seriously, Asa Encore is not for everybody and neither are the different ticket prices. If there’s anyone who does not enjoy her music (I cannot for the life of me imagine who doesn’t), stay at home and do you.

However for true Asa fans, none of us should pay 2.5 million naira to attend Asa Encore. There’s no shame in saying it’s probably beyond what we can afford to fork over.

Instead pay the basic 10k, make your way to the regular seats near the rafters that are not encumbered by tables of ten chairs each and have a ball.

That’s where I’m going to be, basking in the presence of the most ethereal entity to ever write and sing a song in this part of the Atlantic. Her name is Asa, but you knew that already.

I Can Not Be Envious Of Tekno Because I Raised Him – Iyanya

Iyanya wants everyone saying negative things such as ‘he is envious of Tekno’s success’ to have a rethink. While speaking to Saturday Beats when the question was thrown at him, Iyanya asked how he could be envious of a boy himself and former partner, Ubi Franklin raised through their platform. He said;

“I am so happy for Tekno and his success and I am not surprised. At a point, we were all together and this is a young guy that works very hard. He worked every night and when we woke up in the morning, he would still be working. So, I am not surprised that he has finally made it.

I believe this is just the beginning and there are many more things to come his way. When he came to Triple MG, he sprayed his hair gold and anytime I wanted to call him, I referred to him as golden boy.

I am very happy he is doing great things. How would I be envious of somebody that Ubi Franklin and I raised from our platform? We used our platform to promote him and I cannot be envious of him; there is no need for that.

People would always try to say negative things but we are very fine.”

Without Late Rapper “Dagrin”, Using Yoruba To Rap Wouldn’t Have Been Accepted

Dagrin did not start Yoruba rap. He finessed it, and blew it up in a way that was so huge and inspiring, that 7 years after his demise, it is grown into more than a genre.

It’s a culture. A phenomenon. A lifestyle. A community.

Saturday marks the 7 anniversary of Dagrin’s death. The rapper gave up the ghost on April 22, 2010 at a hospital in Lagos, after an auto crash. Dagrin who is survived by his parents and siblings, had released two albums, which possess a string of hit songs, including the great ‘Pon pon pon’.

Before Dagrin there was Yoruba rap. Other artists had carried it as a means of delivery, and created records before he even showed up on the scene. Lord of Ajasa and AY began this movement and pioneered it. And although they created the genre and released records with it, they didn’t go pop.

But entered Dagrin.

Dagrin’s home was in Meiran, Alagbado, Lagos. His style of rapping incorporated Yoruba, English and Pidgin English. In 2010 he was nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Album (C.E.O.), Hottest Single “Pon Pon Pon“, Best Rap Act and Best Collaboration with vocals.

His album C.E.O. (Chief Executive Omota) won the Hip hop World Award 2010 for best rap album.

From it came the singles ‘Pon Pon Pon’, and ‘Kondo’. Dagrin also worked with other Nigerian artists such as Y.Q, 9ice, M.I, Iceberg Slim, Omobaba, Terry G, Code, Mistar Dollar, TMD Entertainment, Omowumi, Chuddy K, Bigiano, and Konga. He is associated with music producers like Sossick, Dr Frabz, Sheyman, Frenzy and 02.

During his short career he created enough to last a lifetime. Dagrin took dialectical rap, ran with and made it better. He made it popular, transformed it from a niche sound to a commercial movement, made it look cool to the public, and made money.

But the most important part of it all was how he broke through glass ceilings and made a genre so lucrative that it inspired a generation of young musicians to take the baton after his death and utilize it to create a cultural movement and phenomenon. Dialectical indigenous rap is a money-maker in Nigeria, and it has had stars such as Olamide and Reminisce.

Olamide himself, did not meet Dagrin, but he was inspired by the work he put in.

“He paved way for people like me, as well as Lord of Ajasa. Lord of Ajasa paved the way for people like me, Idris Abdulkareem, the likes of AY, Junior & Pretty. It’s a movement, it has to keep going on. Every now and then, every new set of artistes that come out, they have to pave the way for a new generation.” Olamide said.

He speaks the truth. Indigenous dialectical Hip hop is a movement that will outlive all of its prophets now. It outlived Dagrin, who put it on this thriving path.

It’s 7 years on since Dagrin left, but the flourish he added to the genre has ensured that many others have risen from his template. This is immortality. This is the reason for human existence; to live the world a better place than you met it.

What do you think guys?

“Why I Will Sue 2face And His Manager Soon” – Blackface Opens Up

Former member of the defunct Plantashun Boiz, Blackface, in an interview with Premium Times, disclosed that he will take legal actions against ex-labelmate, 2face for allegedly stealing his songs.

He said;

“Yes, I have; and my legal team is working on that, as that’s the best way to go. When I accused them, they lied and said its ‘unfortunate’. I said they took my song and then even said maybe my account was hacked. Well, if you thought so why didn’t you pick up your phone and say “Yo black.. . What’s going on?’

“But, no they won’t because they wanted to steal it and it backfired, and they trying to act ‘holy’ so they make flimsy excuses. 2face and his manager planned all of that.

“2face sang my song (Let Somebody Love You) and featured an American artiste, Bridget Kelly. His manager published it without my permission. Till today they haven’t deemed it fit to tell the world that they tried to assassinate my character in the media but that couldn’t be justice and they know.

“So, the court is our only option as they keep avoiding meetings thinking that with time it will all fade off. But, they know not what tomorrow holds and neither do I.”

When asked if he was enjoying royalties for hit song ‘African Queen’ which he claimed to have written, he said, “All the facts about those will be known soon because there is so much unfinished business around the song since its release till date. And all the royalties will have to be traced and paid to whom it’s due.”

‘Why We Can’t Stop Being S3xual In Entertainment’ – Tiwa Savage

Multiple award-winning Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has said that the desire for glamour and appeal is the reason entertainers cannot stop being sexual in their performances.

She said this while addressing some pressing issues in the Nigerian music industry as a guest on an entertainment show hosted by Arise Television, which was monitored by DAILYPOST.

According to her, entertainers cannot be stopped from adapting sexual scenes in their stage-craft but can be regulated through appropriate guidelines provided by a competent body or authority.

She, however, disclosed that contemporary musicians were misunderstood in a similar way the late Afrobeat King, Fela’s dancers were misunderstood because of their sexual displays on stage.

Savage said: “There is no way a movie and entertainment will not have sexual scenes. You cannot stop an artiste from being sexual in entertainment

“The only thing we can do as Africans is to provide guidelines.

“When I performed initially in Nigeria, they screamed that it was too much; that it was too sexual. We are still fighting the same battle the Fela girls fought.

“Fela’s girls were misunderstood. What they did on stage was just entertainment.

“What they do on stage doesn’t mean that they are loose off stage. People say Fela is godfather but people forget the women that added glamour to Fela’s show.”

I Was Pressurized By Wizkid Most Times – Skales

Singer Skales, has made it known that he has never been under pressure from Wizkid and unlike many think, can actually create an even bigger brand with his talent.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, the Temper crooner opened up about his time at EME record, ex-home to singer Wizkid, saying contrary to what many thought, he was never pressurized by Wizkid.

In his words:

“I have never been under pressure from Wizkid. I have always been a singer even though I became more popular as a rapper. When I was in Kaduna, I wrote songs but rap was the in-thing back then, so that’s what I concentrated on more. I believe that artistes have their individual styles and it’s not necessary to compare one artiste with another. I had a wonderful time with EME and they contributed so much to my career. But I’ve moved on and I’m grateful to God that I’m doing well in my career.”

On what drives him to keep on making music:

“I have a very deep passion for what I do. Anyone who knows me would tell you that I’m very particular about my music and nothing is more important than that to me. I am not in it just for the money but to make an impact and also touch lives along the way.”
