Popular award show in Nigeria, Headies might not take place this year, 2016.
Naijaloaded.com.ng can not independently confirm yet, but sources have revealed the organizers of the event are having reservations of holding the popular award show this year for undisclosed reasons.
“Nobody has heard anything, neither has anyone whispered or shared information,”
“At the moment, the boss (Animashaun), is not saying anything to anyone, and nobody knows what will happen”, a source told Pulseng.
It will be the first time the award event wont be holding in its 10-year span, if confirmed.
Founded in 2006 by Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria in a bid to recognize great works in the flexible Nigerian music industry.
The annual ceremony is broad casted exclusively on music channel HipTV.
A biting economy recession in Nigeria might be a factor for its snub, as the failing economy has already affected similar award shows in Nigeria.
The Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA), failed to hold last year due to lack of sponsorship (Winners were announced but with no ceremony).
Despite Headies having a self-acclaimed tag as an award of prestige in Nigeria, it has had its own fair share of controversies.
In 2013, reggae-dancehall singer Burna Boy stormed out of the event after losing out to Sean Tizzle.
The 2015 edition was even more colorful.
It witnessed fierce clashes from the music big guns in Nigeria, including Don Jazzy and Olamide, after Mavin Record’s Reekado Banks won the ‘Next Rated’ award over YBNL rapper, Lil Kesh.
Naijaloaded will update on this story when we get more information.
Did Reekado Banks deserve to win the Next Rated Award over Lil Kesh in the 2015 edition of the Headies award?
Yes sure... He's good
